Denarius is a scientific journal published by the Department of Economics at the Autonomous Metropolitan University - Iztapalapa Campus, published biannually. Its objective is to disseminate original, unpublished articles of high academic quality that offer innovative perspectives and make significant contributions to cutting-edge knowledge in the fields of Economics and Business Administration, featuring theoretical and/or empirical studies authored by national and international scholars and researchers.

About

Denarius journal stems from the Autonomous Metropolitan University’s commitment to fostering spaces for academic reflection that ensure the publication of original works characterized by scientific rigor, expert peer review, and the wide dissemination of research in the fields of economics and business administration

In this context, in 1989 the Department of Economics at the Iztapalapa Campus launched a publishing project aimed at strengthening the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge. Since then, the institution has been responsible for managing and publishing the journal. This project was carried out during the tenures of Dr. Óscar M. González Cuevas as President of the UAM; Dr. Gustavo A. Chapela Castañares as Dean of the Iztapalapa Campus; Dr. Ignacio Llamas Huitrón as Director of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities; and Dr. Pedro C. Solís Pérez as Head of the Department of Economics.

Originally, the publication appeared under the title *Serie de Investigación*. Its first issue was published in November 1989 with a print run of 1,000 copies. The project later evolved into a series of anthologies, each identified by an ISBN (International Standard Book Number), an international code that uniquely identifies publications in book format.

Its primary objective is to disseminate scientific research, contribute to the dissemination of knowledge, and preserve culture, in line with the core mission of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana. Furthermore, the journal has established itself as a diverse forum for the exchange of ideas and critical reflection, enabling students, researchers, and the interested public to appreciate the academic quality of the research conducted both at the UAM and at other institutions.

The first issue of Denarius was published in July 2000. As of June 2026, the journal has published fifty issues and eight Research Yearbooks covering the periods 2000–2001, 2003–2004, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. The 2005 and 2006 yearbooks were dedicated, respectively, to the memory of Dr. Jaime Puyana and Dr. Raúl Conde, in recognition of their outstanding academic work and their fundamental contributions to the development and consolidation of the Department of Economics.

The journal was realized during the tenure of María Cristina Escobar Iturbe, under whose leadership the first issue was published in July 2000. Since then, the participation of national and international experts on the Editorial Board and the Editorial Council has helped ensure the scientific quality of the publications, as well as the objectivity, transparency, and rigor of the editorial processes.

Starting in late 2018, during Dr. Roberto Gutiérrez’s tenure as head of the Department of Economics, Denarius began a modernization process aimed at adapting to the digital environment, while maintaining the academic and editorial standards that characterize the publication. As part of this strategy, various initiatives were implemented to enhance its visibility, expand its reach, and consolidate its position as a leading journal in the fields of economics and management.

More recently, under the leadership of Dr. Rosalinda Arriaga Navarrete as Head of the Department of Economics and Chair of the Editorial Board for the 2022–2026 term, the journal has continued its intensive institutional efforts aimed at strengthening editorial quality, professionalizing academic management processes, and increasing the journal’s national and international visibility. Among these efforts, the pursuit of its inclusion and recognition in SECIHTI’s National System of Scientific and Humanistic Publications stands out.

In short, Denarius seeks to establish itself as a scientific journal of the highest quality, with a growing presence among readers, authors, and academic institutions. Its ongoing commitment to editorial quality, scientific rigor, and international best practices in academic publishing guides its efforts toward inclusion in leading indexing systems, directories, and specialized databases. This objective constitutes one of the main challenges and commitments of the Editorial Board in its work to strengthen and promote the journal.
