Abstract

The terms supply chains and global value chains are often used interchangeably, despite significant conceptual differences. This document aims to clarify the distinctions between these terms and explain how they interrelate. To achieve this, it presents general perspectives associated with each concept, highlights their differences, and discusses recent developments they have undergone. To enhance understanding of the recent evolution of supply chains, the document includes indicators that quantify and evaluate the magnitude of disruptions at both global and local levels, as well as some of the challenges faced in Mexico. Additionally, it provides an overview of how Mexican economic activities participate in global value chains.
